HEADLINE: Crisis in the ‘Cleanest City’: Death Toll Rises in Indore Water Contamination Tragedy
Indore: The public health crisis in Indore has worsened, with fresh reports confirming a rise in the death toll due to contaminated water supply. Despite administrative efforts to contain the situation, new cases of severe diarrhea and vomiting were detected in Snehlataganj and surrounding localities on Tuesday.
Hospitals in the city are witnessing a steady stream of patients, with several in critical condition. The crisis stems from a leakage where sewage lines reportedly mixed with the municipal drinking water supply.
Civic Failure:
Residents have expressed outrage at the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC). For a city that prides itself on being India’s “Cleanest City” for years running, the failure to provide safe drinking water has exposed a crumbling underground infrastructure. Political clashes also erupted over the issue, with 45 workers from BJP and Congress detained for fighting on the streets while citizens battled for life in hospitals.
The administration has ramped up water sampling and distribution of clean water tankers, but trust in the tap water supply has hit rock bottom.
