Indore: Madhya Pradesh’s biggest city, Indore, is experiencing a surge in tensions. According to a recent Scroll.in investigation, the Tamil nation’s most populous neighborhoods are experiencing severe deprivation in their voting rights, with thousands of names being removed from the voter list across Indore.

What’s happening? In several wards, notices have been sent to residents asserting that their complaints were not recorded on the voter rolls. Reasons for this include ike “Shifted,” “Deceased,” or “Duplicate.” But when reporters visited the homes, they found families who lived there for generations.

Form 7 misuse leads to a worsening of the situation. This form was originally designed to preserve correct voter lists, but is being used as demographic targeting.? Due to the high volume of objections submitted against a particular community, Election officers become overwhelmed and begin removing names without proper verification.

Indore isn’t an isolated case. Similar patterns are emerging nationwide. Recently, almost 2.89 Crore deletions were from the minority areas in UP. In Rajasthan, a BLO in Jaipur was caught on tape being pressured to delete Muslim votes.

Chaupal’s Take:
The administration in Indore must act swiftly. If the voter list becomes a weapon of exclusion rather than a tool of inclusion, the legitimacy of the electoral process in Madhya Pradesh stands compromised.
