Lucknow : In a strategic pivot to ensure inclusive growth, the Uttar Pradesh government has placed the Agriculture Sector at the core of its roadmap to become a $1 Trillion Economy.
The Economic Logic
While recent investments from Tata (AI City) and Samsung (Mobile Manufacturing) have boosted the industrial profile of the state, policymakers acknowledge that the sheer size of UP’s rural population means the primary sector cannot be ignored. Agriculture contributes significantly to the state’s GSDP, and enhancing its value chain is essential for double-digit growth.
The Strategy: ‘Farm to Fork’
The vision document emphasizes a transition from traditional farming to Modern Agri-Business. Key pillars include:
Food Processing: Establishing units near farms to reduce wastage and increase crop value.
Agri-Tech: Promoting the use of drones and data for precision farming.
Exports: Leveraging the ODOP (One District One Product) scheme to export unique agricultural produce like Kalanamak Rice and Dasheri Mangoes.
Chaupal’s Take:
This focus ensures that the “New Uttar Pradesh” isn’t just limited to the expressways of Noida and Lucknow. By turning the farmer into a stakeholder in the $1 Trillion dream, the state aims to bridge the rural-urban economic divide
