Moradabad: The dense fog enveloping Western Uttar Pradesh turned deadly on Tuesday night, leading to a horrific hit-and-run accident in Moradabad district that left three men dead.

The Incident
According to the police, the accident took place late at night on the Thakurdwara-Jaspur road. The victims—identified as Omkar (25), Rakesh (22), and Mukesh (40)—were returning home on a motorcycle when they were struck by a speeding unidentified vehicle.

Impact of Weather
Circle Officer Ashish Pratap Singh stated that visibility was extremely low due to the dense fog (Kohra). The collision was so severe that the victims were thrown onto the road and sustained fatal head injuries, dying on the spot. The driver of the offending vehicle took advantage of the fog and fled the scene.

Investigation
The police have sent the bodies for post-mortem and have launched a search operation to identify the vehicle using CCTV footage from nearby establishments, though the fog may hamper visual identification.

Chaupal’s Take:
This incident underscores the perils of winter commuting in the Heartland. As fog density increases in January, the risk on undivided state highways rises exponentially, demanding extreme caution from commuters.
