Ghaziabad: The Uttar Pradesh Police has taken decisive action against right-wing vigilantism in the NCR region. Annu Chaudhary, the son of Hindu Raksha Dal chief Pinky Chaudhary, has been arrested following a viral video that showed him distributing swords and making inflammatory speeches.

The Provocation
Earlier this week, a video emerged from Ghaziabad where Annu Chaudhary was seen addressing a gathering. In the footage, he issued ultimatums to the Muslim community (“Live by Hindu culture or else”) and oversaw the open distribution of swords to cadres, ostensibly for “self-defense.”

Legal Action
Taking cognizance of the brazen display of arms and hate speech, the Ghaziabad Police registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for promoting enmity and the Arms Act.

Chaupal’s Take:
This arrest sends a crucial signal. In recent weeks, fringe groups in UP (from Loni to Fatehpur) have attempted to challenge the state’s monopoly on law and order. By arresting a high-profile leader’s son, the administration has drawn a red line: Vigilantism will not be tolerated, regardless of political connections.
